Vanity Camera (VRC Avatar Prefab)

$5+

A lightweight, stealthy vanity camera prefab designed for observing your own avatar in VRChat.

Designed to live on your avatar rather than in the world, this camera moves naturally with you and avoids the usual visibility and usability downsides of the built-in VRChat camera.

Requires VRCFury
https://vrcfury.com/download

What it’s for

  • Personal vanity viewing of your own avatar (and close-range perspective checks)
  • Checking proportions, expressions, movement, and presentation
  • Situations where you want a camera focused on you, without broadcasting it to others

Why use this instead of, or in addition to, the built-in camera?

  • Stealthy
No visible lens, no visible screen to other players
  • Always stays with you
The camera is attached to your hand, so it follows your avatar reliably and never drifts or detaches
  • Adjustable screen size
Resize the screen to whatever feels comfortable for you
  • Easier pitch adjustment
Pitch is controlled via a slider, not by awkwardly thumb-sticking the lens into place
  • Reliable third-person view
Easily check the back of your avatar without fighting camera angles
  • No UI on the view screen
View your avatar cleanly with no distracting stuff
  • True self-recording
Use the Vanity Camera with the VRC Camera to record your avatar viewing itself - clean, UI-free footage for VRC content creators
  • Faster self-correction
Quick glances let you adjust and move on without breaking flow
  • Consistent framing
Once you find a setup you like, it stays consistent across sessions
  • Lower cognitive load
Controls are simple and spatial, so you spend less time thinking about the camera

Platform support

  • PC / PCVR only
  • REQUIRES VRCFury from https://vrcfury.com/download
  • Android is not supported
This is not by choice - Android avatars do not support camera components.

Installation (summary)

  1. Import the unitypackage into your Unity project
  2. Drag the Vanity Camera prefab into the root of your avatar
  3. Move:
    • “3P Lookat” just above your avatar’s head (or where you'd prefer the camera to focus)
    • “Screen” just above or in front of your hand
  4. Upload your avatar
  5. Jump into VRC and navigate to Expressions -> Gadgets -> Vanity Cam to use it

(Exact placement depends on avatar proportions.)

Ultra-lightweight

Adds only:

  • 1 camera
  • 1 flat screen (quad / two triangles)
  • 1 material with 1 texture

No extra meshes, no hidden geometry, no system sprawl.
